Domaine Tollot Beaut Savigny Lavieres 1er Cru 2017 750ml
Vinous 90 Points | The 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru is back after being frosted over in 2016, although there is a little less in terms of quantity since 0.75 hectares was pulled up for replanting. It has a slightly muted bouquet at first, featuring cranberry, crushed strawberry and a light marine scent. The palate is well balanced and very elegant, with a fine bead of acidity and a silky-smooth, easygoing finish that suggests it will constitute fine early drinking.
Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières is soft, supple, and delicately scented with strawberry aromas and flavors and an underpinning of minerality. Aging in 30% new Burgundian pièce brings subtle notes of vanilla and spice. Les Lavières can mature early and offers excellent near-term drinking.
Red Burgundy might be the world’s most flexible food wine. The wine’s high acidity, medium body, medium alcohol, and low tannins make it very food-friendly. Red Burgundy, with its earthy and sometimes gamey character, is a classic partner to roasted game birds, grilled duck breast, and dishes that feature mushrooms, black truffles, or are rich in umami.
