Brunello di Montalcino - Italian Wine
Brunello di Montalcino is one of the finest wines produced in Italy. The wines are full-bodied, powerful and, often, expensive.
Brunello di Montelcino is both an old and new wine region. Although plantings date back to the 14th century, in the 20th century prior to WWII there was only one serious producer, Biondi-Santi. There are now about 200 producers making Brunello di Montalcino.
The grape used must be 100% Sangiovese, by law. The variety of Sangiovese used in Brunello di Montalcino is generally Sangiovese Grosso, known colloquially as Brunello (big brown).
