American Wines

Wine is produced in every American state, including Alaska and Hawaii. That being said, most of the top quality wine being produced comes from California, Oregon, Washington and New York.

While there are many grape varieties native to America, the best wines are made from vitus vinifera varieties that came here from Europe. The most popular of these are Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc. Zinfandel, although it also came to the US from Europe, holds a special place as the most uniquely American wine.
