Martin Johnson has been in and around the New York City high end cheese world since 1984. During that time he has worked at some of the city’s most prestigious venues, managed several notable counters and created the cheese programs for two of the most renowned wine and beer bars in New York. He currently runs the cheese, charcuterie and beer programs for Gastronomie 491 on the Upper West Side where his work has been hailed by The New York Times and New York magazine. In addition to his retail activity, Johnson founded The Joy of Cheese, a series of informal educational events that take place around town and he teaches several cheese classes each semester at the 92nd St. Y.
