Loire Valley
French Wine
As France's most diverse wine region, the Loire Valley is best known for
its crisp, dry white wines with refreshing acidity. The huge variation
in the soil and climate allow for the Loire Valley to produce different
grapes, each with their own characteristics. The best known Loire wine is Sancerre, which is 100% Sauvignon Blanc has aromas of citrus, gooseberry and grass. Also
from the Loire Valley are its red wines, roses and sweet wines. The
reds tend to be light and elegant, the Rosés full-flavored, and the
sweet wines among the best in the world. One of the most notable grapes
used in producing these wines is Chenin Blanc, with characteristics of
honey and butter at its finest and its ability to produce one of the
longest lasting dry white wines.
