Hungary’s finest
wines are produced from vineyards at higher elevations,
such as those in Tokaj in the extreme northeast of the
country. The most famous Hungarian wine district,
Tokaj makes a luscious, golden sweet wine with an
astonishing ability to age...Three-fourths of all Hungarian wines are white; the
fragrant Olasz Rizling (Welschriesling) is the most common.
Hárslevelu˝ makes soft, scented quaffers, while the
powerful wines of the Furmint grape may one day be
considered among the world’s greatest whites.
