Trentino is noted for its excellent red wines. A representative example is Teroldego, a dry, full-bodied wine made from the eponymous grape. Lagrein, Schiava, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Merlot are also grown here. The region is famous for Pinot Grigio, which remains a staple. In recent years many producers have stepped up production of fresh style whites made from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Bianco, Riesling, Traminer, Moscato and Sylvaner. Trentino Rosato wines are produced from Lagrein and Schiava, as in Alto Adige.
