about Syrah

Syrah is a red grape that makes bold and spicy wines. Historically, great Syrah has come from the Rhone Valley in France. In fact, it is the only red grape grown in the Northern Rhone. Today, Australia has achieved worldwide success with its wines from the same grape, Shiraz. While Syrah from France is earthy, smoky, and peppery, Shiraz from Australia is more fruit-forward with a spicy character. California also produces some ripe and intense wines from Syrah.
