California's "Bordeaux Blends"

These wines, sometimes referred to as Meritage (though that is a trademark of the Meritage Alliance) are made of the grapes that are traditionally allowed in Bordeaux. Claret, an old British slang for Bordeaux, is now often used to refer to Bordeaux blends.

For Red Bordeaux blends, these are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenère (which has a story of its own).
