Tempranillo

Tempranillo is the great Spanish wine grape. Although there is more Garnache planted by area, more great wines are made from Tempranillo. Tempranillo is the basis for the wine of Rioja, Ribero del Duero and Toro. The local clone of Tempranillo in the Ribera del Duero is called Tinto del Pais, while it a different clone is known as Tinto de Toro in the Toro region.

Tempranillo wines can be fresh and fruity when made to be drunk young. Other versions can stand several years in oak barrel, and many more in bottle, before reaching maturity.
