Los Vascos Chardonnay 2012

Los Vascos Chardonnay 2012

750ML
Sku: 011677

In the mid-nineteenth century, two of the leading Chilean wine producers brought vines from Bordeaux to improve the quality of the original vineyard of Viña Los Vascos. Chile's natural geographic frontiers protected it from the Phyloxera epidemic of the late nineteenth century and resulted in an unbroken line of wine stock that now produces some of the finest wines in all of Chile. The acquisition of 50% of Los Vascos by Rothschild (Lafite) in 1988 was the result of an exhaustive search of more than one hundred Chilean wines for one that could meet their criteria for excellence. The vineyard's own Chardonnay grapes are complemented by a selection of grapes from the Casablanca valley located further north between Santiago and Valparaíso, which is renowned for its great Chardonnay production.

Review
This Chardonnay has a delicate, bright yellow color. The nose offers aromas of ripe pineapple, fresh banana, stewed Asian pumpkin and white flowers. On the palate, it combines freshness and volume with a pleasantly balanced finish.

Wine maker notes
Light brilliant yellow robe. The nose unveils pineapple, green banana, grapefruit, physalis or golden berries, apricot and almond aromas. Fresh and balanced on the palate. Pleasant finish. The home valleys to this Chardonnay had the adequate amount of rainfall and moderate temperatures that not only ensured proper vegetative development, but also a good harvest. This Chardonnay boasts balanced acidity, good aromatic development and body. The harvest took place in good conditions. They started in early March in Colchagua, continued in Colchagua Andes and ended in the Casablanca Valley in April. The result is an elegant wine with excellent balance between acidity, volume, and aroma. Harvesting was done early in the morning, when the temperature is low, which allowed for preserving the wine’s full potential. Following selection, the grapes were softly pressed for fermentation in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures between 14º and 16ºC.
