Kanonkop Pinotage 2013

Kanonkop Pinotage 2013

Sku: 011963

Tasting notes
A complex wine with red fruit flavours. Big, elegant and ripe tannin structures. Will over time show more secondary and forest floor characteristics.

For decades, Kanonkop – South Africa’s equivalent of a “First Growth” – has set the standard for the notoriously fickle Pinotage grape, a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault. The estate’s stunning, age-worthy bottlings show the heights this unique varietal can attain when placed in the hands of a master! Alluringly complex and distinctive, this benchmark Pinotage boasts juicy layers of dark berries, ripe banana and cassis intertwined with hints of bacon and mocha.

This has a lovely dark currant, warmed plum and steeped blueberry core, inlaid with cocoa and melted black licorice. Everything flows through the rich, velvety finish, with a note of black tea weaving in. Drink now through 2020. 750 cases imported.-JM

(14.9% alcohol): Bright ruby-red. Red berries, licorice and smoky graphite minerality on the nose. Boasts great fruit intensity and sweetness but with harmonious acidity framing the red berry and spice flavors. Finishes with dusty, ripe tannins and outstanding building length. Wonderfully spicy, concentrated, tactile wine with a great future. Winemaker: Abrie Beeslaar. 93+ Points

Wine maker notes
Full bodied wine with a dark purple colour. Intense fruit flavors with soft ripe tannins give this wine maturation potential of up to 15-20 years.

Food pairing
Red meat or spicy Asian style dishes.
