The Story Behind The Name

The name ‘Stump Jump’ doesn’t relate to the English game of cricket (jumping over the stumps at the end of the game), nor the breeding of livestock held in the stumps but relates to the significant South Australian invention – the Stump Jump plough. The plough soon became a worldwide implement for ploughing fields because of its ability to ride over stumps and gnarled “mallee” Eucalypt roots and snags, saving valuable time and resources by not stopping the draught horse.

Review
Great value with dark plum and sweet red berry preserves balance by fresh, super soft tannins, vanilla, and eucalyptus.

Rating
2009: 88 Points - Josh Raynolds, Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellars: " Deep ruby. Powerful, youthfully brooding aromas of cherry, licorice, dark chocolate and pungent herbs. Smells and tastes quite serious for an entry-level wine, offering deep dark fruit and bitter chocolate flavors that pick up sweetness with air. Supple tannins build on the nicely persistent, chewy finish. Owner and winemaker Chester Osbourne says that a lot of components that just missed the cut for d'Arenberg's flagship bottlings typically go into this wine, which gives it a less easygoing personality than most Aussie reds at this price point."

Wine maker notes
The Characteristics

A medium rich ruby red appearance with a dark centre. The aromatic nose is of ripe juicy red fruit mixed with notes of dark cherry, christmas pudding, green and white pepper corns, plum and boiled rhubarb notes. The palate is easy drinking ripe and juicy dominated by a mix of red berries and savoury characters with lovely soft tannins and a edge of acidity which complements the dry liquorice and herbal notes. Its softness, balance of fruit weight and fruit tannins means it is drinking wonderfully now. The more it opens up the more dark rich concentrated fruit characters evolve.
