Overlooking the Cachagua region of Carmel Valley lie the beautiful mountain vineyards of the Heller Estate Organic Vineyards. The vineyards are certified 100% organic. Neither herbicides nor pesticides are used in the production of the grapes. Certification was granted after three vintages of clean farming, although the vineyards have always employed organic methods throughout the years. While implementing these methods are costly and labor intensive, the philosophy of the vineyard is that they are contributing not only to the ecology and environment, but also to wine consumer's concerns about pesticide residues in wines. All the wines are estate bottled from grapes they believe come from better quality fruit from healthier vines.
The 2005 Cachagua, a blend of 78% Cabernet and 22% Merlot, has beautifully aromatic blackberry and cassis on the nose with a touch of mocha and vanilla. Nicely rounded with supple tannins and vivid fruit flavors cascading in the mouth, it finishes with a touch of spice on the long finish.
|Bright ripe blackberry and cassis aromas with a touch of mocha and vanilla. Look for mineral, herb and black peppercorn notes as nose opens. A round, lightly tannic entry leads to a dry-yet-fruity full body of vibrant berry fruit and brown spice flavors with crisp, juicy tartness and supple tannins on the long finish..
