Tasting notes

We had Georges Puig in the store pouring his wine just a few months ago. He’s a very fine, young winemaker, and it shows in this inexpensive wine. This is a medium to full bodied red made from Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Mourvedre. Some of the vines go back over 130 years, and the wines won Gold Medals in 1893 and 1896. It has sweet black fruit up front, a very rich chocolate/caramel middle, and a long dry finish without any distracting tannin. It's a wine I really like.

2010: 89-90 Points - David David Schildknecht, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Puig-Parahy 2010 Cotes du Roussillon Georges - about to be bottled when I tasted it - offers its usual exuberant, infectiously juicy, impeccably-clean, tart-edged fruit, reflecting a blend of Carignan, Grenache, and a smidgeon of Syrah, raised in tank. Blackberry and purple plum are tinged with brown spices, bittersweet herbs, and peat-like smokiness. Given the pricing of past vintages, we can expect that this 2010 rendition of "Georges" will once again offer outstanding value over the next several years. "
