Torbreck Semillon Woodcutter's White 2010

Torbreck Semillon Woodcutter's White 2010

Sku: 023906

One of Australia’s leading wineries, Torbreck Vintners was founded by David Powell in 1994. He affectionately named his winery “Torbreck” after a forest in Scotland where he worked as a lumberjack. Torbreck produces wines exclusively from the most revered vineyards in the Barossa Valley, home to some of the oldest vines and clonal material in the world, thanks to its freedom from Phylloxera. Red wines are produced from the classic Barossa varieties: Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, using manual, traditional methods and are complemented by white wines produced from Semillon, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne. The wines have been praised effusively since the beginning by the world’s leading wine critics, journalists and opinion leaders and are represented on the wine lists of the world’s best restaurants. In 2008 the completion of a state of the art, eco-friendly winery, packaging and administration building has meant the realization of David’s goal to have all Torbreck wines produced and bottled on the estate.

Tasting notes
Medium-bodied with a pristine lemon hue this youthful wine offers delicate scents of citrus, limestone, candle wax, and toasted brioche. The palate reveals notes of almond kernels, soft pineapple, roasted cashew and white peach. Finishes with a crisp spine of razor like acidity.

Wine Advocate 88 points (Oct 2010)
The 2010 Woodcutter?s Semillon gives a good intensity of lemon peel and lime leaf aromas with some notes of orange blossom and fresh straw coming through with air. The medium bodied palate has a pleasant citrusy character and great freshness. Drink it now to 2013

Technical notes
The Semillon (predominantly Madeira Clone) was sourced from Kalimna, Vine Vale, Rowland Flat and Koonunga Hill. The vineyards were hand-picked and whole bunches were gently pressed to individual vats where they were left to settle. After 24 hours the younger blocks were racked to tank and the older parcels were transferred to six year old French barriques for a long cool fermentation. The components were later assembled and bottled.
