Bodega Numanthia Termes Toro Numanthia 2009

Sku: 024218

Numanthia has released the 2007 vintage for its three wines, Numanthia, Termes and Termanthia. Selected from the best grapes of Spain's Toro terroir, situated in Spain's Castilla y Leon region, the wines instantly charm with their finesse and elegance.

The 2007 vintage is the result of slow ripening and late harvest of the grapes. A dry, clement winter was followed by a cool, rainy summer, enabling a gradual flowering of the vines. Picked at optimal ripeness from these low-yielding vines, the grapes are intensely fruity and concentrated.

The winemaker's art is all about extracting their full potential, particularly the intense fruit flavors typical of the Tina de Toro grape, the only variety planted in the region.

The 2007 vintage was aged in French oak for 14 months, giving it remarkable elegance and velvety depth.

Tasting Numanthia 2007 reveals a broad palette of flavors. Intense notes of red and black fruit are joined by cacao and a blend of spices: cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper.

As elegant as it is powerful, the 2007 vintage expresses the rich personality of the Numanthia vineyards, a cradle of complex, intense wines.

Alluring floral and spicy aromas give way to ripe cherry and roasted espresso flavors in this sleek, modern red. The tannins are formidable but well-integrated, brightened by lively acidity. The wine shows depth and persistence. Drink now through 2020. 2,200 cases made.-TM

(15% alcohol): Glass-staining ruby. Deeper and darker in profile than the Termes, offering scents and flavors of cherry compote, cassis, vanilla and licorice, plus a floral overtone. Lush and creamy in texture, with juicy acidity adding lift and focus. Finishes sweet, smoky and very long, with resonating spiciness and slow-mounting tannins.

The 2009 Numanthia comes from La Jara, El Pego and Vanialbo from 60- to 100-year-old vines and it is matured for 21 months in new French oak. It has a rounded, generous bouquet of raspberry coulis, wild strawberry and vanilla pod that is well-defined and not over-powering. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy, elegant entry. The tannins are quite fine and lend the 2009 exceptional symmetry and focus. There is a dash of white pepper and graphite underpinning the dark berry fruit, with good structure towards the opulent, hedonistic and ebullient finish. Drink 2015-2025.
