Richard and Thekla Sanford have been growing grapes organically since 1983, and were the first grape growers to obtain organic certification in Santa Barbara County by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) in the year 2000. In the year 2005, the Sanford’s sold off their namesake winery and began the 100 acre Alma Rosa organic venture in the Santa Rita Hills, focusing on organic viticulture, sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly packaging, with their entire production made in an environmentally friendly “green” facility.
Positively brimming with fruity aromatics and bright flavors, this delightful Pinot (made from grapes from certified organic estate vineyards) is dominated by a mix of fresh crushed berries and dark cherries, with a floral-spice element and beet-root essence. The wine showcases the dark rich side of Pinot Noir and already is showing a smooth supple texture with cleansing acidity.
