Allegrini Palazzo della Torre 2012

This blend of 70% Corvina Veronese, 25% Rondinella and 5% Sangiovese is a smooth, full-bodied cru made in an innovative ripasso style. After the harvest, the grapes from the Palazzo della Torre vineyard follow two different paths: while 70% of the grapes are vinified immediately after the harvest, the remaining percentage is dried until the end of December. At this point, the wine ferments again with the dried grapes. This wine will age easily for 8-10 years. Deep ruby red in color, it has a delicious red berry perfume, with hints of raisins and plums.

Brilliant ruby in aspect, with heady aromas of wild berries, vanilla and currants, leading to an elegant, well structured palate of berries, chocolate and ripe red berry fruit. Supported by good acidity and smooth, supple tannins, pair with grilled and roasted meats.

90 Points , Wine Advocate
The 2010 Palazzo della Torre is 70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella and 5% Sangiovese that is air-dried until December after the harvest. That brief appassimento has shaped a delicious wine with loads of cherry and dark spice. Its a great value with the depth of concentration and length that would match a wine double this price. Drink 2013-2018.

The Allegrini family is one of the strongest pillars supporting the centuries-old winemaking traditions of the Valpolicella and the veritable renaissance those traditions are experiencing today. Until recently, winemaker Franco Allegrini was the driving force at the estate, but today his lovely sister Marilisa has become the face of the brand. Thanks to her tireless, globe-trotting promotional efforts, Id definitely put Marilisa on a list of the top five ambassadors of Valpolicella.

The Allegrini Farm is located in Fumane di Valpolicella. For generations, the Allegrini family has lived in this small but important locality of the Valpolicella Classica, handing down the activity of wine growing and the vinification of grapes from generation to generation.
Since the XVI century, the components of the family have been among the protagonists of Valpolicella history. The document attesting to the fact that Allegrino Allegrini succeeded in purchasing the right to exploit several "fountains" or "springs" in Mazzurega, a suburb of Fumane, to facilitate irrigation of his property, is dated 1557.
Between 1616 and 1630, as testified to by the acts and transcriptions of the time, the Allegrini family was counted among the families in Fumane who owned the most land, which ensured their pre-eminence in local society.
Giovanni Allegrini, who was extremely proud, like his predecessors, to belong to the land of Valpolicella and dedicated his many resources and great energy to it, was the head of the new generation. Giovanni was among the first winegrowers to question local practices, revolutionising consolidated habits and speaking clearly about quality; he succeeded in adding oenological know-how to rigorousness in selecting grapes, thus creating a virtuous circle that produced some of the finest wines of the Valpolicella in the Sixties and Seventies of the last century.
After his early death in 1983, his three children inherited the company: Walter, responsible for conducting the winegrowing activity, Franco, an oenologist and Marilisa, responsible for marketing. Within a relatively short period of time, they brought the company to a position of leadership in international winegrowing.
Palazzo della Torre, which is terraced with "marogne", dry stone walls, a true jewel of rural Lessinia Mountain architecture, is one of the most beautiful estates in the Valpolicella Classica area.
Situated in the township of Fumane, it crowns the ancient Villa della Torre, from which it takes its name. The classical arbour type of planting is used, set up with a low plantation density of 3,000 stalks per hectare, with 20 buds per stalk. This form of winegrowing has the great advantage of permitting optimum aeration, which guarantees perfectly healthy grapes, which are earmarked for drying.
