Production of Adelsheim’s 2012 Pinot Gris dropped by nearly 40% vis-a-vis its 2011 predecessor on account not just of lower yields due to a small set, but also of having jettisoned a major grape contract. Honeydew and apple inflected by rind and pit piquancy offer a juicy and refreshing performance, if neither especially complex nor cepage-distinctive. Plan to enjoy this over the next 9-12 months.

Quite tart when it hits the lips, this is nonetheless a dense, flavorful Pinot Gris, tasting of grapefruit, sour orange, apple and green banana. It shows lots of juice and powers through the mid-palate into a fruit-driven finish.

Wine maker notes
Pinot gris originated in Burgundy, like the other members of the Pinot family, and has had a long history all over Europe. In recent times, versions from Alsace and northern Italy have been the best known. Oregon winegrowers introduced Pinot gris to New World viticulture and in 45 years the variety has become the principal white wine of Oregon. Adelsheim Vineyard was one of the very first producers of this variety outside of Europe. With this wine, our 29th vintage, our experience shows – we’ve long been acknowledged as producing a reference standard for the “Oregon style”.
