Renacer Malbec Reserva Punto Final 2011

Renacer Malbec Reserva Punto Final 2011

Punto Final means the “final period” or “full stop.” For the winemaking team at Bodega Renacer, it symbolizes the point when the efforts of a group working together toward a common goal are finished. When the goal is reached, they can finally say, “This is it, period.”

The grapes for the Reserva Malbec are sourced primarily from the Los Patos Vineyard in Perdriel where the average age of the vines is 80 years. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged for a year in French oak barrels and then another six months in bottle before release.

Tasting notes
This Malbec is a deep ruby red color with violet highlights. On the nose, a combination of red and black fruit aromas mingle with earthy mineral and floral notes highlighted by sweet spice and vanilla from the French oak. Black raspberry and plum flavors dominate the palate along with more subtle flavors of tangy cherries, vanilla, and mocha. The sweet tannins carry through to the long, robust finish.

Rating
 Wine Spectator 90 points (Aug 28 2013)
This dark, polished red mixes crushed blackberry, cassis, plum kin, underbrush and olive hints on a full-bodied frame. The ong finish ends with an aftertaste of mocha. Drink now through 2016.—N.W.

Food pairing
This is a full-bodied Malbec that would best paired with a boldly flavorful meat dish like a rib-eye steak with chimichurri.
