Shafer Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch 2013

Shafer Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch 2013

Sku: 034245

Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay is a single-vineyard wine produced from grapes grown in the Carneros appellation. Shaferís Red Shoulder Ranch vineyard is planted to five different Chardonnay clones selected for their small clusters, low yields and distinctive flavors. The wine is fermented using the yeasts that grow wild in Carneros, which adds an extra dimension of complexity. It is spared malolactic fermentation in order to retain abundant natural flavors and acidity. The wine remains in barrel for 15 months, with the lees stirred weekly by hand to create a rich, creamy texture.

2010: 93 Points - Steve Heimoff, Wine Enthusiast: "Another terrific offering from Shafer, this is a wine that seems to do well regardless of the vintage. It always shows a firm minerality and slight herbaceousness, with tropical fruit flavors and a smoky coating of fine oak. Itís a shade less opulent than the 2009, making this very elegant and refined, yet still rich and complex. Donít drink it too coldóairing brings out subtle nuances. "

2010: 93 Points - James Laube, Wine Spectator: "Fresh and lively, offering mouthwatering tangerine, peach and nectarine flavors that are fine and delicate, with floral citrus and honeysuckle scents. Drink now through 2019."

2010: (90-92) Points - Antonio Galloni, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch reveals a brighter profile than the 2009. Citrus, flowers, crushed rocks and mint wrap around the energetic, focused finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. "
