Bodegas Emilio Moro Ribera del Duero 2011

Bodegas Emilio Moro Ribera del Duero 2011

Sku: 040072

Wine Information: Emilio Moro is the flagship bottling from the Bodega. It is produced from 100% Tinto Fino from vines ranging from 15-25 years of age. It undergoes a 28-day skin maceration followed by 12 months of aging in French and American barrels. This is a classic example of Ribera del Duero and an excellent value.

Tasting notes
A deep, cherry red colour. Intense aromas of mature, ripe black fruits, integrated with well-balanced toasty touches. Powerful on the palette, it is full, meaty and rich with thick black-fruit tannins Vanilla, balsamic and spicy touches from fine quality oak. The finish is long and full.

Wine Advocate 92 points (Aug 2014)
The 2011 Emilio Moro is pure Tempranillo from different vineyards on different soils (clay, chalk and stone) fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats and aged for one year in barrels, 50% French and 50% American. It’s dark, almost opaque, a little closed, displaying a serious, concentrated profile with aromas of plums, ripe black cherries and fine spices from the barrel. Somehow it has aromas that bring me back to the Riberas of yesteryear, notes of candied orange peel and good quality American oak. The palate is full-bodied with extremely fine tannins, big-sized but balanced and with acidity and stuffing to age magnificently in bottle. An impressive 600,000 bottles were produced, of which around 35% are exported. This is a very good value. Drink now-2019.

Technical notes
The Moro family has been farming the same vineyards in the Ribera del Duero since 1932, the birth year of Emilio Moro (the patriarch) as well as the year in which the Finca Resalso vineyard was planted. For two generations, the grapes were sold on the bulk market. In 1988, current proprietor José Moro Espinosa invested the family’s entire savings into winery equipment and Bodegas Emilio Moro was born. The bodega joined the D.O. Ribera del Duero in 1989 and quickly established itself as one of the region’s leading producers of top quality wines. The winery is located at the top of a bend in the Duero River in the town of Pesquera del Duero, just to the Northwest of Peñafiel.

Lots of dark fruits on the nose, specially dark cherries, it s a complex wine, yet approachable to drink without food, it will definitively go better with meat. Will not disappoint any Ribera fan
