Domaine de la Chaise Touraine 2014

Domaine de la Chaise Touraine 2014

Sku: 041134

Tasting notes
This 100%Sauvignon Blanc Touraine has been aged on its lees, in stainless steel tanks to bring richness to the wine. A very refreshing dry white wine, very fragrant, with grapefruit aromas, and a nice and subtle minerality.

Smooth and round with lush tropical fruit and zesty acidity.

For most of us Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc immediately calls to mind Sancerre. With its bright citrus fruit, intense minerality, and often searing acidity, it is justifiably an easy pairing with just about any lighter fare. But if you are like me, you don't always want to shell out $25 - $30 a decent bottle of Sancerre can set you back. There is, of course, a sea of eye-poppingly fruity New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc out there to be had for a song, but if your palate yearns for something more elegant and food-friendly at a similar price, you will want to consider Sauvignon Blanc from other areas of the Loire.

Touraine, the central area of the Loire Valley around the city of Tours, produces both red and white wines from a number of grape varieties, including its famous whites from the Chenin Blanc grape. But there are also a large number of producers turning out great Sauvignon Blanc at far more reasonable prices than the better known Sancerre. Domaine de la Chaise is one of those producers. Their 2014 Touraine Sauvignon Blanc features aromas of grapefruit, pineapple, and white peach that remain fresh and lively through fermentation and aging in stainless steel, while prolonged lees contact and stirring softens its acidity and creates a round and supple mouthfeel. Delicious paired with a variety of foods, but especially delicious with fish, shellfish, and fresh herbed goat cheese.

Wine maker notes
The Davault family has been producing wine for six generations. Christophe took over the family business in 2004. Domaine de la Chaise is composed of 57 hectares (140 acres) of vines located on the hillsides of Saint Georges sur Cher. The vines grow tuffeau-rich soils, they rarely suffer from excess water stress and benefit from dry, free-draining soils.
