Michel Gendrier is on a mission to make sure the world knows about Romorantin. After inheriting vines of the varietal that his grandfather planted starting in 1922, Michel has been experimenting with this little-known grape with astounding results. The texture of the wine produced from these old-vines is amazing with a waxy, oily component and beautiful balancing acidity that keeps them very fresh. These are wines for lovers of wine. One of the first in the Loire to convert his property to biodynamic viticulture, Michel simply wants to get back to what his grandfather’s wines tasted like in the late 1920’s. There is a subtle passage in wood (always older barrels) for the red wines and there is always a high degree of lees stirring for the whites. While the unique Cour-Cheverny and the vibrant Cheverny are what the property has historically been known for, the Cheverny rouge is a sleeper hit. Little known outside of the region, it is the Loire’s version of a Burgundian Passetoutgrain but at lower prices and is about as quaffable as it gets!

Review
Fashioned from mostly Sauvignon Blanc (usually 85%) with a touch of Chardonnay (usually 15%), this young vine Cheverny is bright and explosive, with grapefruit and gunflint notes from the very first sniff. Aged for 6 months in stainless steel tanks before releas

Wine maker notes
This wine has a pure bouquet, is well balanced and quite fresh. It has hints of citrus fruits, minerals and a touch of honey. Harmonious on the palate with both a vigorous strength and a subtle softness (beeswax). With a lingering after-taste, this wine is rich on freshness and has a good life expectancy (10 to 15 years).

Food pairing
Accompanies seafood, shellfish, asparagus, pork, soft cheeses, white meats and even spiced dishes such as curry or Mexican dishes.
