Bertagna monopole 2006 Vougeot Clos de la Perriere mingles rhubarb, red currant, and salted meat stock. More concentrated and forceful than the corresponding village wine, this lacks its charm, and the firm tannins that undergird it need to further integrate. It is I suspect apt to remain a relatively tart and in the best case invigorating wine, its personality thus very different from that of the sedate village bottling. I would revisit it in 2010 though to assess its further potential.

Hinting at black cherry and licorice, with a touch of smoke, this red is elegant and firm. It's well-balanced and more svelte than concentrated. Moderate length. Best from 2010 through 2018. 50 cases imported. –BS
