|June marks the debut of the Clos Sonnenta wines in the U.S. The estate, established in 1973, is a clos (a French term used to describe a walled enclosure) on the east coast of Corsica, facing the Italian mainland. The estate is now operated by the next generation, the two brothers Philippe & Patrick Allegret, who have converted to organic viticulture. The terroir consists of rolling hills bordered by several streams (one called Sonnenta), and offers a mix of limestone based clays, granitic sands, gravels, and limestone outcrops.
All chemical products have long been banned from the vineyards, harvests and work in the vines are all manual, fermentation is with native yeasts, and there are no enzyme / acid / sugar adjustments made.
