Sweet red cherries meld into hints of tobacco, cedar, anise and leather. The 2009 impresses for its persistence and personality. It needs some time to open up, but is a pretty wine that will find many admirers among those who favor traditionally made wines. The Chianti Classico is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019."

Wine maker notes

Monteraponi Chianti Classico is blended from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo grapes; it is an elegant wine with a traditional style, its scents are bound to ripe intact red fruits, which are well combined with a balanced structure, smooth tannins and a limited acidity. The wine is aged with its for 12 months 30% in Allier barriques for a second passage and the remaining 70% in Allier casks of 23 hl. Before being released it is aged for one month in concrete and three months in bottle.
