Yarden Gewurztraminer Heights Wine 2008

Yarden Gewurztraminer Heights Wine 2008

Wine Advocate 90 points (Dec 2010)
The 2008 GEWURZTRAMINER “HEIGHTS WINE” (YARDEN) comes in 375ml for the price quoted. It was harvested at 43 brix and has residual sugar of 18 grams per liter, so you know what’s coming with this, one of Israel’s most charming dessert wines. A bit cloying at times, particularly initially-- even the winery suggests drinking it at 45F--it is nonetheless churlish to try to resist the charms of this wine (a little like a Bonny Doon Vin de Glaciere). Rich and luscious on opening, it feels thicker than it actually is on first attack and eventually turns juicy and succulent, showing a little more acidity than I thought it had. One thing you can’t argue about –it is simply delicious. Tinged with apricot up front and ripe mango on the finish, this is hard to resist. It’s always a question how these will age—the type can age well, but this faded significantly the next day and did leave me thinking that it might decline fairly rapidly. In any event, be conservative and drink it young, as the luscious, sweet young fruit is what merits the price of admission here. Drink now-2014. ”
