| In 1956 Giuseppe Bensa purchased a small piece of land in order to produce wine to be sold at his inn without realizing La Castellada would quickly become a benchmark Italian producer. Near the end of the seventies his sons Giorgio and Nicoḷ took over the estate, and today Nicoḷ works together with his son, Stefano. La Castellada maintains a beautiful collection of organically farmed vineyard parcels situated in the Oslavia subzone of the Collio, in the far northeastern corner of Friuli. The estate is a leader within the zone due to their adoption of spontaneous, open-vat fermentation, prolonged skin contact, sophisticated, customized oak treatment, vat maturation, and bottling without filtration or sulfur treatment. Each grape, lot, clone, and barrel is treated individually with respect to the vintage. |
