Review
I've been in love with this classic Soave since the 2005 vintage when I first tried it and had the chance to meet winemaker Marinella Camerani at a tasting. Aside from making delicious wine, Ms. Camerani has a warm personality that makes you feel good about buying her wines. Hers is a classic Veronese blend of Garganega (70 percent) and Trebbiano (30 percent). Bright aromas of lemon curd, almonds, and cream reflect on the palate; beautifully balanced, ever-so-citrusy acidity buffers the fruit.

Marinella Camerani is part of the National Organic Program, having practiced biodynamics since 2002, and is working with the Demeter society for certification. The “Vigne de Mezzane" vineyard is about 2.24 hectares (5.5 acres) and is located in Monte Tombole near Mezzane di Sotto, just north of Verona. It faces southeast and is at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level. Stony, chalky soil lends the wine good acidity, while short contact with the skin and then the lees adds depth and complexity. Aging takes place partly in oak vats and partly in steel.

Food pairing
With great acidity that cuts nicely through any creamy or fatty components you send its way (without being excessive), this dry white from the Veneto is consistently refreshing and food-friendly. Lately I've been pairing it with everything from a powerful fennel-sausage-and broccoli-rabe pasta to simple spoonfuls of creamy Burrata cheese. It's also absolutely delightful as an aperitif, as it drinks well on its own.
