Cubillo Crianza 2005 Tempranillo (65%), Garnacha (25%), the rest divided between Mazuelo and Graciano from the Cubillos Vineyard. Aged 3 years in barrel and 4-5 years in bottle. Also available in 12/375ml. Reviews The 2005 Cubillo Tinto Crianza has a wonderful bouquet with leathery red fruit augmented by subtle hints of undergrowth, tobacco and a touch of spice. The palate is medium-bodied with a bit of piquancy on the entry. The acidity is quite sharp and it is missing a little flesh and weight towards the tensile finish. Drink now-2018. 2005: 91 Points - Josh Raynolds, Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellars: "Deep red. Highly perfumed aromas of cherry, raspberry and baking spices, plus a hint of mocha. Sappy and seamless in texture, with very good depth and clarity to its spicy red fruit flavors. Fine-grained tannins come on late and add shape to the long, penetrating, spice-dominated finish. Pretty tasty right now but this elegant wine's balance bodes well for aging. "

Technical notes

Lopez de Heredia - one of the most venerable producers in Spain – produces traditional, age worthy red and white Rioja wines. Their wines are legendary and still made the way they were when the winery was founded over a hundred and thirty years ago. Following a tradition that has been passed down through generations, their wines are released at least five to ten years after harvest, which provides added complexity and elegance to their Crianzas and Gran Reservas. A rarity in Rioja, Lopez de Heredia uses only estate bottled fruit from their prized vineyards: Tondoñia, Bosconia, Cubillo and Zaconia. Average vine age is 45 years old and organic farming and natural fermentations are implemented creating wines that exhibit great terroir.
