|Claudio Icardi has carried on the work his father started, farming his 75 hectares (32 of which are planted to vines) organically, while actively converting to Biodynamic techinques. According to his sister, Maria Grazia, "My brother is unique at talent scouting vineyards where chemicals have never caught on." According to Claudio, "Our focus is a healthy land, a land as healthy as one hundred years ago. The result is excellent vines."
Icardi wines are a reflection of their terroir, beautifully fruited and characterized by refinement, cleanliness, balance and elegance. The 2008 Barbera d'Asti Tabaren is made exclusively from the Barbera grape grown in poor, sandy soil at 250 meters above sea level. The color is a beautiful bright red with aromas of fresh cherry on the nose. Firm and well structured with sweet tannins, this is a superbly food friendly wine. Barbera is typically a wine with an affinity to food pairing, and the 2008 Tabaren fits the category with precision and great flavor. Naturally it makes a great fit to pasta and red sauce, but there is a world beyond to explore. Want a red wine for fish? This is absolutely it! With refreshing acidity, it can easily take on a bit of heat as well. Put it to the test...you'll be pleasantly delighted!
