Amalaya Vino Tinto de Altura 2012

Amalaya Vino Tinto de Altura 2012

Sku: 067985

A blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Tannat, Amalaya is an exquisite representaion of the unique weather and soil condiions in Argenina’s Northern Calchaqui Valley that also honors the heritage of the naive Calchaqui people. The Calchaqui Valley sits in the northwestern region of Argenina, in the eastern foothills of the Andes mountain range at an alitude between 5,250 and 5,580 feet above sea level. The high alitude provides a unique growing climate for the sustainably-farmed vineyard, providing intense sun in the day and cool nights that help beter retain the acidity and concentrated fruit characterisics of the grapes.

Malbec blend: 75% malbec, 10% cabernet sauvignon, 10% syrah, 5% tannat.
Cherry, pepper notes, plum and berries. Smooth tannins, medium finish.

Wine Advocate 87 points (Apr 2014)
The 2012 Malbec Blend is a blend of 85% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah from Salta which displays a bright cherry color with a fruity nose of very ripe berries with hints of raisins and dry figs. The palate reveals good integration of the oak with the juicy, sweet fruit flavors balanced by good acidity. Drink 2014-2015.

Technical notes
Amalaya means "hope for a miracle" in the native language of the Calchaqui valley indigenous people. This high altitude wine from Argentina's northwest wine capital Cafayate, captures the spirit of a long tradition of harvesting the land and giving thanks to mother Earth or "Pachamama". The valley's unique soil and microclimate 5,580 Feet above sealevel allows for low yielding vineyards which produce high quality, densely colored grapes. The dominant aromas of Amalaya Malbec blend are cherry and boysenberry with nuances of flowers and white pepper, while the palate is full with hints of vanilla. The finish is persistent with soft tannins making the wine approachable for any occasion and most foods.
