Marietta Cellars Zinfandel 2010

Marietta Cellars Zinfandel 2010

Marietta Cellars is located just outside the town of Geyserville in Sonoma County. Owner and winemaker Chris Bilbro founded Marietta Cellars in 1978 in a rented cow barn in the Dry Creek Valley. He named the winery after his great aunt Marietta - a tough Italian immigrant who was known for always having a stock pot on the stove, a bountiful garden, and a plentiful table. Not having children of her own, she took Chris under her wing and taught him how to cook and to taste, which is a direct correlation to Chris’ winemaking style. The wines of Marietta Cellars are a personification of Chris Bilbro, his outlook on life, and his general lifestyle. To this day, no wine gets bottled without Chris’s approval and no vineyard row goes more than a week without Chris riding his ATV through it. He produces wines of incredible consistency, both in quality and price, with relative anonymity. The Bilbro family winemaking tradition is now in its second generation. The majority of the day to day operations are handled by Chris’s three eldest sons, Jake, Scot, and Sam. Brothers by blood and best friends by choice, they’re all dedicated to the dream that Chris started in 1978. “For over three decades one of the greatest values in dry California red wine has been the non-vintage kitchen sink blend from the Bilbro’s family-owned MariettaCellars…This wine flies off retailers shelves, so smart consumers take note.” Wine Advocate ~ February 27, 2010

Tasting notes
The wine offers vibrant notes of red and black raspberries, rhubarb, dark Bing cherries, pepper and dried savory herbs. The rich and full mouthfeel is framed by soft tannins and focused acidity.

Technical notes
Fruit from Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley and the Russian River Valley was aged for 16 months in French oak.
