Since the year 2000, Cline Cellars has farmed way beyond the industry’s standard of organic viticulture in an attempt to avoid reliance on chemical pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers that are generally used in everyday farming. All 100% of the winery’s electrical needs are provided by two thousand solar panels covering the 50,000 square foot winery in Sonoma Carneros.

The Oakley ranch, situated 40 miles east of San Francisco, is home to Cline’s Ancient Vines - some of the oldest and most rare grapevines in California that range in age from 80 to 120 years old. These special vineyards consistently produce fruit of stunning concentration.

Mourvèdre is an exotic grape found in the Rhône and Provence regions of France, Spain and Australia. It is a key component in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and has a starring role in Bandol. Once widely planted in California (where it is often called Mataro), today only a tiny amount exists and Cline owns many of the historic ancient vines that still remain.

The 2006 Ancient Vines Mourvèdre draws from some of Cline’s oldest vineyard blocks. These blocks perpetually produce fruit of stunning concentration. A scrumptious and unusually delightful wine offering distinct chocolate characteristics and a luscious deep flavor of plums and dark berries with soft tannins and substantial mouth-feel. A perfect complement to rack of lamb, grilled pork tenderloin or dark chocolate.
