Steve Tanzer 90 points (Oct 2009) Good deep red with ruby highlights. Sexy perfume of cherry, raspberry, woodsmoke and underbrush; this reminded me a bit of a northern Rhone syrah. Then rich, chewy and dry on the palate, with a pliant texture but more saline soil tones showing today than sweet primary fruits. Finishes smoky and long, with good fat. (Incidentally, an earlier sample, with its notes of woodsmoke, violet and olive, was even more reminiscent of syrah. I would almost have guessed the bottle was mislabeled but this producer does not offer a syrah.) |
