La Crema Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2013

La Crema Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2013

750ML
Sku: 213326

The vineyards of the Sonoma Coast offer an unusually long, cool and steady growing season. Lingering fog and wind from the nearby Pacific Ocean moderate temperatures throughout the season and slow the ripening process. With an extended "hang" time on the vines, the results at harvest are small berries with firm acidity and highly concentrated varietal aromas and flavors.

Wine maker notes
2013.
This special release offers up lively pie cherry aromas that mingle with alluring cocoa, allspice and black tea notes. Flavors of pomegranate combine with red plum and orange zest to deliver a well-balanced Sonoma Coast blend. Fine tannins and good concentration create a broad, supple mouthfeel that lingers well into the back palate.
-Elizabeth Grant-Douglas, Winemaker

Fruit for this wine was selected from cool estate and grower vineyard sites within the Sonoma Coast boundaries all within 30 miles of the Pacific Ocean. The resulting blend is a complex, layered wine, representing the spectrum of growing conditions found within the Sonoma Coast. It embodies incredibly concentrated wines on the extreme coast with the deep and spicy qualities of the Russian River Valley; the dark earthiness of Los Carneros with the bright red fruit of the Green Valley.
To capture the juicy, fresh fruit character of the grapes, clusters were hand-sorted, carefully de-stemmed, and cold soaked for three days at 48 F to intensify the color and flavors of the wine. Fermentation took place in open-top tanks and punch downs occurred three times each day during active fermentation, to gently extract color and structure. The wine was transferred to tank for one night to settle before racking to new and used French oak barrels. With minimal post-fermentation maceration, the wines were basket pressed and racked to French oak barrels that add additional layers of spice, texture and notes of vanilla. Wines were not racked out of barrel prior to bottling. Lots were kept separate until this time to ensure our winemaking team had a broad palette of aroma, flavor and structural components to work with when layering together the final blend.
