Review
Tinto Doumia 2009 A blend of mostly Caino, Espadeiroand Mencía. The Caino and Espadeiro provide a floral component while Mencía adds the structure that completes the wine.

Technical notes
Adega Pedralonga is situated in the Val do Salnés sub-region of Rías Baixas, above the Umia river. Miguel Alfonso and his parents farm their family vineyard, a 7 hectare (17 acre) contiguous plot of thin, sandy topsoil over solid granite. It is one of the most “alive” vineyards - no doubt due to the family’s careful farming, which is practicing organic with some biodynamic techniques, and to the unspoiled forests that frame the vineyard. All fermentations are with natural yeast. The “regular” Albariño (which is anything but regular!) and DoUmia red wine are aged in tank. Miguel lets the wines, including the whites, go through malolactic fermentation. The result is wines of uncommon structure and texture, yet with uncompromising acidity and minerality, thanks to the stony granite terruño. These are wines of remarkable personality and longevity, as a recent tasting of a 1997 Albariño demonstrated. If there were a Grand Cru classification in Rías Baixas, Pedralonga would be one of the few vineyards to earn it.
