Castello di Ama L'Apparita 2009

Castello di Ama L'Apparita 2009

Sku: P59377

Founded in 1972, Castello di Ama is one of Tuscany̵7;s preeminent estates, renowned for producing wines of finesse and elegance. Situated at 1,574 feet near Gaiole-in-Chianti, this 617 acre estate is owned by husband and wife Marco Pallanti and Lorenza Sebasti. Since 1982, the couple has successfully steered the estate through several major renovations and improvements including a total replanting between 1982-1987, a dramatic increase in plant density to 5000/hectare, the introduction of French varieties and a major upgrade of winemaking equipment. In 2003 Marco was named Oenologist of the Year by Vini d’Italia and the couple continues to build upon their reputation for crafting benchmark Chiantis.

Wine Advocate, 94 Points
Stunning as usual, the 2009 L’Apparita (100% Merlot) starts off slow but builds steady momentum and intensity. This is a seamless and beautifully integrated expression that sees fine contrast between acidity, structure and fruity extract. The wine is still tight, so give it time to complete its bottle evolution. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.

"It is amazing how much a little decanting can do for the 2009 L'Apparita. Initially tight and reticent, the 2009 blossoms into a stunning, open, beautifully radiant wine that captivates all of the senses. I visited the estate in 2009, during the middle of a huge heat wave. I expected to find a much bigger wine, but ultimately, the 2009 is medium in body and all about finesse. This is a fabulous Apparita graced with exquisite aromatics and tons of pure class. I imagine the 2009 will enjoy a broad drinking window, but like all Apparitas, the best comes with time. 96+"

Wine maker notes
L’Apparita has enjoyed cult status right from its first vintage, 1985. Lying at the top of the Bellavista vineyard, at an elevation of 490 metres, is the collection of small parcels that make up the L’Apparita vineyard, a total of 3.84 hectares. It was planted to Canaiolo and Malvasia Bianca in 1975, but grafted over to clone 342 of Merlot between 1982 and 1985. Its open lyre training system and clay-rich soil make this small cru a true jewel in the international wine world.
