La Pierre Levee Saint-Joseph 2011

La Pierre Levee Saint-Joseph 2011

Sku: P59505

Tasting notes
Rich and dense yet a wine thta provokes an impression of freshness rather than of heaviness. The oak is present but certainly does not dominate. The wine has fine structure, with ripe supple tannins. Powerful, but fine and elegant; the wine is delicous and easy to drink with its long, fresh, spicy and well-balanced finish.

Nice blue fruit, not heavy, some nice smoke, a little black olive, adds weight with air.
- Paul Bressler, 67Wine Buyer

Technical notes
100% Syrah.
The fruit is hand-picked and hand-sorted then completely de-stemmed. Pre-fermentation maceration of 3-4 days then carefully controlled fermentations at around 28C. Half of the resulting wines are then matured in oak for between 8 and 12 months.
Winemaker: Jean Mounard.

Other text
The "Pierre Levée", or the "Risen Rock,", is the large block of granice on the vineyard. Legend maintains that the rock appeared mysteriously overnight in ancient times.
