|125 years of history in this bottle. Wine Advocate says"Gramona ranks as one of CAVA's finest procudcers." Eric Asimov has been talking Gramona since 2010. The versatility of this CAVA makes it perfect from start, as an aperitif, to finish, with dessert. Gramona sits stately in the Barcelona Region at the foot of the Montserrat Mountains at the Mediterranean Shore. Dedicated to sustainable agriculture, the vines are farmed without herbicides or pesticides and Gramona has been certified by Catalan Council of Ecological Agricultural Production. Gramona strives for innovation but retains its roots in tradition. For example, the cellar is mostly underground for natural cooling with only 5% of the cellar visible above ground. To be called CAVA, the wine must be made in the Methode Champenoise.
This CAVA is an equal parts blend of Xarel-lo, Chardonnay and Macabeo. Greenish yellow in the glass with lemon like reflections, the nose is of something that has been baked with white fruit highlighted by pear, and the palate brings in the certainty of brioche and almonds.
