Gosset Champagne Brut Grand Millesime 2000

Gosset Champagne Brut Grand Millesime 2000

Sku: 1582173

Lead Time 5 day lead-time required Why?

The Chardonnay is sourced from the Grand and Premier Cru vineyards: Avize, Cramant, Cuis, Vertus, Trepail, Villers-Marmery. The Pinot Noir is sourced from the Grand and Premier Cru vineyards: A, Verzaney, Bouzy, Ambonnay, Chigny-les-Roses, Avenay Val dOr. During the 2000 vintage, the vineyards were hit by violent storms and heavy rains; however, the vines recovered with the arrival of beautiful weather during the summer and harvest period of time. The Grand Millesime 2000 drew its strength and characteristics from these exceptional conditions.

Tasting notes
Luminous pale gold, with abundant sparkle and thin, persistent bubbles. ------------------------------------------ Delicate, elegant and rich. A deliciously scented bouquet of mango, pineapple, lemon and apricot mingle with fresh springtime flowers of hawthorn, chamomile and jasmine. ------------------------------------------ Fresh, elegant and lively with notes of pineapple, mango and apricot, followed by notes of hazelnut. Long, elegant and persistent finish.

Wine Advocate 90 points (Dec 2009)
Gosset’s 2000 Brut Grand Millesime is a large-scaled, exuberant wine bursting with ripe apricots, roasted hazelnuts, smoke and sweet baking spices, with slightly oxidative overtones that add complexity. Extended lees aging has additional volume and breadth to an already finessed mousse. As delicious as the 2000 Brut Grand Millesime is, however, I don’t quite find the elegance that is a hallmark of the finest bottles in this vintage, as the wine comes across as overly heavy. The Brut Grand Millesime is 56% Chardonnay and 44% Pinot Noir. This is Lot # L920 1113, disgorged mid-May, 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016.

Wine maker notes
A prestige cuvee aged a minimum of eight years on the lees prior to disgorging, which is well over the minimum three years of bottle aging required by law for a vintage cuvee. This is a champagne with great aging potential.

Technical notes
12% abv

Food pairing
A marvelous complement to almost any kind of dish. This wine can take the journey from roasted scallops with lemon and farm-raised veal chops with potatoes straight through to a crisp caramelized pear dessert. It is, in short, pure culinary delight.
