Established in 1999, Matetic is owned and operated by Jorge and Cristian Matetic. The biodynamically farmed, certified organic vineyards are located in Rosario Valley, a subdivision of San Antonio Valley. There are two distinct types of soil in the valley on the hillsides the soil is red-brick in color, thin, with a superficial layer of clay and decomposed granite below. On the valley floor, the soil composition has a deeper layer of granite, red clay on top over a layer of darker colored soil. The fruit is hand-picked and estate bottled. Winemaker Paula Cardena Saez began as an assistant for Errazuriz and William Cole Vineyards. She is assisted by winemaker Julio Bastias and consultant Ken Bernards.

| Aromas of red fruits mixed with spicy notes, herbs and wet earth precede sweet and structured tannins on the elegant and persistent finish. |

Wine Enthusiast 89 points (Jun 2011) Bold, dark and rubbery on the nose, with a hint of citrus to go with black cherry. This is full, thorough and upstanding on the palate, with black fruit, licorice and cocoa flavors. Comes across sweet and rich but balanced, with a layered, long finish. M.S. Wine Spectator 89 points (Nov 30 2011) Juicy and dark, offering inviting blackberry and black cherry fruit that mingles with hints of licorice, toasted fig bread and black tea. This has grip, but it's integrated, with a rounded feel and solid length. Drink now. 900 cases made. JM |

| Grapes are harvested from six estate parcels planted with clones 777, 115 and mass selection Valdivieso. The grapes were cold macerated for five-seven days and fermented with pump overs to intensify aromas and flavors. The wine aged 10 months in French oak barrels of different sizes: 228, 300 and 400 liters after which the wine was clarified and bottled. |
