| The « E » stands for Epfig as this Gewurztraminer is the result of a blend of several plots located in and around the village of Epfig. The soils are made of pebbles, therefore they are light soils with good air flow, that heat up quickly which allows Gewurztraminer to ripen perfectly. These Gewurztraminer, like all the domaine’s vines, are farmed using Organic and Biodynamic methods. Gewurztraminer at the Domaine is always made in an off-dry style. Indeed we pick it later than the other varieties, with a balance similar to most of alsatian « vendanges tardives », yet
while the vine is still feeding the berries with water and nutrients so before the fruits start dehydrating. The result is a fruit-driven wine with no « terroir » ambition, which is the reflection of the variety’s heady personality but balanced by a subtle and etheral freshness. |
