Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2006

Poggio Antico is a 50 acre estate that lies three miles south of Montalcino, Tuscany and dates back to the early 19th century. Purchased in 1984 by Giancarlo and Nuccia Gloder, their youngest daughter, Paola and her husband, Alberto Montefiori currently manage the family estate. Planted in the 1970s, the sit at 1,500 feet and are amongst the highest planted vineyards in the region. At this altitude, constant maritime breezes prevent fog, frost and mildew all but eliminate the need for sulfides or pesticides. The vineyards face south/southwest and are planted on mixed galestro and calcareous rock soils. The wines of Poggio Antico are made in a traditional manner to express the full characteristics of vintage, varietal and quality terroir.
