In 1984, under the supervision of the late managing director, Enzo Morganti, San Felice purchased
Campogiovanni in Montalcino. The estate's 49 acres of vineyards are planted entirely to Sangiovese – 35 acres,
the oldest of them planted in the mid-1960s, are dedicated to Brunello and 14 to Rosso. Winemaker Leonardo
Bellaccini replanted other parcels in 1982, 1988 and 1997. The vineyards are located at an elevation of 820-984
feet with a south-southwest aspect. This position allows the vines to benefit from the positive effects of mild
breezes off the Mediterranean. The terroir of Campogiovanni, including its sandy, mineral-rich clay soil, allows
Sangiovese to grow slowly and steadily, producing unusually complete, balanced grapes and wines which express
all their potential.
| Tasting notes |
| Dark ruby, with an amber edge. Intense aromas of ripe plum and fresh
mushroom follow through to a full body, with silky-soft tannins and a fresh clean finish. Crisp and decadent. |
| Technical notes |
| Produced exclusively in exceptional vintages, and in limited quantities, Il Quercione is the maximum expression of
the terroir of Campogiovanni. The Il Quercione vineyard is planted on medium textured, sandy, mineral rich clay
soil. Maceration and fermentation in stainless steel lasted 25 days. The wine aged two years in French oak
tonneaux and three years in bottle. |

| In 1984, San Felice purchased Campogiovanni, located in Montalcino. The estate's 49 acres
of vineyards are planted entirely to Sangiovese, with 35 dedicated to Brunello and 14 to
Rosso. Some vines were already present when the property was purchased, but many more were planted during the 1980s. The vineyards are located at an elevation of 820-984 feet with a south-southwest aspect. This position allows it to benefit from the mild breezes that come in from the Mediterranean, which keeps the humidity from accumulating. The vines are planted on medium textured, largely silty sand with some clay, on sandstone and calcareous marl. The terroir provides a steady, yet slow-paced ripening, which is favorable
to producing vines of significant qualitative integrity. The wines of Campogiovanni are produced with the intent of allowing the wines to express all their potential. |
