Voerzio’s 2007 Merlot is a sumptuous red laced with grilled herbs, black fruit, espresso and French oak. There is an expressive spiciness to the bouquet that could easily be confused with Cabernet Franc. This, too, shows marvelous concentration and richness all the way through to the seamless, intense finish. I would be very tempted to cellar this for a decade or more. It is yet another compelling wine from Roberto Voerzio that is elevated by the quality of the year to unprecedented heights. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2032.
