The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio comes across as surprisingly lean and compact, especially within the context of the vintage. It shows very limited mid-palate sweetness and dry tannins that attenuate the finish. I tasted several bottles and they were all very disappointing for this usually outstanding, benchmark wine. The 2007 Il Poggio spent 18 months in neutral 500-liter French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.
