How Cold Should I Make That Bottle?
An often forgotten element of enjoying wines is the service temperature. This is the temperature the wine is served at; and is one of the most important for enjoying your wines! Red wines should be served around 55º-60ºF. Most white wines should be 50º-55ºF and sparkling wines should be served around 40ºF. If this all sounds ridiculous, just use our simple 1-2-3 rule. ONE - Red: We recommend putting almost all red wine in the refrigerator for an hour. This is not enough time for the bottle to get cold. One hour will barely chill the wine, allowing the aromatics to show up; this is the most important element for enjoyment – beyond decanting or letting it breathe. 1 Hr! TWO - White: We recommend putting most white wines in the refrigerator for 2 hours. This will chill the wine and allow its flavors and aromas to show up. Longer then 2 hours is a problem, if the wine gets to cold you won’t taste anything. 2 hours however, is perfect. 2 Hr! THREE - Sparkling: Bubbles - Asti Spumante, Champagne, Cava, Pet-Nat, and Prosecco are a special case. Most people enjoy these wines well chilled. 3 hours in the fridge will fully chill a bottle. Enjoy those crisp bubbles quite cold! 3 hr! Service temperature of wine in 3 steps! |
